Beautiful, flashy Australian opal set in 14k gold on a sterling silver backplate with smooth band that has one flower at the center back.. This gorgeous opal measures 12mm by 6mm and is set in a 3mm 14k gold bezel. I've soldered it onto a sterling back plate. The band is also sterling silver and I've oxidized the stamp impression to bring out the flower stamping at the back. This ring is a size 6.25 and can be stretched to a 6.5. If neither of those are your size, I do have a large collection of opals for you to choose from to create your own custom sized ring. Just convo me, I'd be happy to send photos of available opals.

Crystal opals are found exclusively in Queensland, Australia. Crystal Pipe Opals are found in roundish tubular holes in sandstone boulders. They are known for having bright colors, mostly from blue to green, although there are some other colors, like pink and orange, too. These opals are created in the same way other opals are made, which is that water carrying silica finds it way into sandstone. When the water evaporates and there is the required pressure, an opal may form. It takes about 5 million years for an opal to form!

Opal rates at about 5.5-6.5 on the mohs scale of hardness, which is similar to glass. It is, therefore very important that you treat your opal carefully and avoid subjecting it to force or to any other activities (sports, gardening, etc) that could potentially damage or break it. Keep your opal away from soaps, detergents and perfumes just to be on the safe side! It is always good to store your opal away from direct sunlight, preferably in a jewelry box or pouch.
