Australian Opal, Pink Tourmaline and Ethiopian Opal in 14k Gold and Sterling Silver, Opal Statement Ring
One of a kind Australian Opal, Pink Tourmaline and Ethiopian Opal set in 14k Gold with a sterling silver back plate and sterling silver band. These beautiful and all natural stones seem to enhance each other's beauty with their vibrant colors. The purple Australian opal measures 10mm at its widest point and 8mm from the point at the bottom to the middle of the straight edge. The intensely colored pink tourmaline is faceted and measures 8mm by 6mm. The Ethiopian opal is 6mm round with lots of green and pink highlights. The four 2mm 14k gold balls are solid gold. 495.00This ring is a size 7.75 and due to its length, will take up a little extra on your finger, so it will be comfortable for a size 7.5.
Opals begin as a mixture of silicon dioxide and water. When fresh water (from rain or streams) runs down over sandstone, it picks up traces of silica from the sandstone. This silica and water solution finds its way into cracks and crevices in trees or boulders. When the water evaporates, the silica is left (with minute amounts of water trapped in the molecules), and an opal is created! The process, although seemingly simple, takes millions of years. Opals are all one of a kind and each captures its own unique beauty. Opals are about 5-6 on the Moh's scale of hardness which is about the same hardness as glass. Some care should be taken so they are not scratched. To protect their beauty, they should not be stored in direct sunlight. They deserve to be treated gently so I also recommend removing them when playing sports, gardening or doing any activities. They should also be removed when showering because they can be affected by perfumes, cleansers or other chemicals. With a little TLC, they will become a family heirloom.
Pink Tourmaline is one of the many colors that the gemstone tourmaline comes in. It is also green, blue, black and watermelon (exhibiting both pink and green in the same crystal). Tourmalines are crystals and their color depends on the trace minerals present-for example, manganese produces the reddish colors while titanium produces the bluer tones. It is birthstone for October and also the gem of the eighth anniversary. It is about 7 -7.5 on the hardness scale.
