Australian Opal Ring in 14k Gold and Silver, OOAK Boho Style

Regular price $325

One of a kind, bright blue Australian Boulder Opal set in a 14k gold bezel on a sterling silver split shank band. This gorgeous opal has flashes of aqua and purple as the light hits it and it a truly beautiful stone. I've kept the setting simple to highlight its natural beauty. The opal measures 12mm tall by 10mm wide. The sterling silver split shank band is 4mm wide in the back. This ring is a size 6 and can be stretched to a size 6.5. If you would like a different size, I have a large collection of beautiful opals for you to choose from to create a custom fitting ring.

Opals begin as a mixture of silicon dioxide and water. When fresh water (from rain or streams) runs down over sandstone, it picks up silica from the sandstone. This silica and water solution finds its way into cracks and crevices. When the water eventually evaporates, only the silica is left and an opal is created. Although this process sounds simple, it takes about a million years to create an opal!

Opals are the birthstone for October. Because opals can contain all the colors of other gems, the Romans thought opals were the most precious of all gems.Australia is the world's main producer of opals since the 1890's. Many cultures have attributed certain powers to opals. The Greeks believed they bestowed the ability to tell the future. In the 1800's, a novel was written that contributed the belief that opals were unlucky and only to be worn by those with October birthdays but throughout history, opals have been revered for their amazing color changes.

This ring will arrive in a beautiful gift box with a free polishing cloth. Like all my jewelry, it comes with a lifetime warranty.
