One of a kind, beautiful Cantera Opal set in a 14k gold bezel and surrounded by cast sterling silver twigs. This opal has an amazing depth to it, almost like looking into a mineral pool. It measures 11mm by 9mm in its 14k bezel setting. The back of the stone setting is sterling silver. The leaves and twigs are cast from actual plants. The back of the band varies but is mainly 2mm wide.

Cantera Fire Opals are fiery opals that the Mayans and Aztecs used in beautiful mosaics and jewelry and also religious rituals. They called them “quetzalitzlipyollitli,” or the bird of paradise. Mexican Fire Opals are found in mountainous areas where there are extinct volcanoes. Opal veins exist in cracks and crevices which the miners extract them from.
