Koroit Opal Earrings in 14k Gold and Silver
Beautiful, flashy and one of a kind Koroit Opals from Queensland, Australia set in 14k yellow bezel wire on a sterling silver back plate. I have pierced the back to expose the beautiful patterns on the back of the opals which also lightens the weight of the earrings so they are very comfortable on your ear. The earring wires are 14k gold (not gold plated or gold filled). The opals measure 21mm x 8mm and with their sterling silver border, the earring measures 25mm x 11mm.
Koroit Opals come from South West Queensland, Australia in a remote area that has neither electricity or running water. It is not to be confused with the town of Koroit which is in western Victoria. Koroit Opals are famous for their strong ironstone color with beautiful inclusions of bright colors, usually blues and greens. Each pattern in the opal is entirely unique and reflects the cutters skill in enticing the best flashy color to emerge from the background. Opals are created when water, carrying silica, finds its way into cracks and crevices in boulders of either ironstone or sandstone. After the water evaporates, opal may result, but it is a process that takes literally millions of years!
