Beautiful iridescent blue green solid Australian opal set in 14k gold. This one of a kind opal is bezel set in a simple setting to highlight the beauty of the stone. This pendant features a solid opal, not a doublet or triplet. Reminiscent of a Caribbean sea, this opal has flashes of green, yellow and blue. Opals begin as a mixture of silicon dioxide and water. When fresh water (from rain or streams) runs down over sandstone, it picks up silica from the sandstone. This silica and water solution finds its way into cracks and crevices. When the water eventually evaporates, only the silica is left and an opal is created.
