Flashy purple Koroit Boulder Opal from Australia set in 14k yellow bezel with sterling silver split shank band. This opal measures 12mm long by 9mm wide. This shade of purple is an unusual one to find in opals these days, which makes this ring truly OOAK. The 14k yellow bezel is 3mm wide and the ring shank is 3.5mm wide at the back. This ring is a size 6.5 and can be stretched to a size 7. If either of these are not your size, I have a large collection of opals and can make you a ring in your size. Australian Boulder opals are the second most valuable type of opal (following black opal). Boulder opals are easily distinguished by a layer of solid brown ironstone on the back of the stone. Boulder opals are mined from large ironstone boulders found underground. Thin veins of colourful opal formed in cracks and fissures from water (carrying silica) finding its way over these ironstone boulders. It takes about 5 million years for an opal 10 cm in size to form!
