Blue Topaz is a member of the Topaz family. Topaz comes in many colors, ranging from colorless to red, pink, yellow, brown and blue. Most Blue Topaz is originally colorless and has been heat treated and irradiated to enhance its color. This is a permanent treatment and will not fade or discolor. Topaz is a hard stone (measuring about 8 on the Moh's scale of hardness) so it does work well as a ring stone as it is scratch resistant.
