Australian Crystal Pipe Opal Ring in 14k Gold and Silver
Beautiful, natural Australian Pipe Opal set in 14k gold with a sterling silver backplate and sterling silver band. The sterling silver band is 3mm wide and is imprinted with the Sanskrit symbol for "breathe". The opal measures 14mm by 8mm and has a wonderful sparkling depth to it. The 14k bezel is 2.5 mm wide. This ring is a size 6.5. Due to the design on the band, this ring can't be stretched, but I do have a large collection of opals if you would like to choose your own and have one made that will fit you perfectly.
Crystal opals are found exclusively in Queensland, Australia. Crystal Pipe Opals are found in roundish tubular holes in sandstone boulders. They are known for having bright colors, mostly from blue to green, although there are some other colors, like pink and orange, too. These opals are created in the same way other opals are made, which is water carrying silica finds it way into sandstone. When the water evaporates and there is the required pressure, an opal may form. The silica particles catch the light and diffract it, giving the stones the luminescent quality opals are known for. It takes about 5 million years for an opal to form!
This ring, like all my jewelry, comes with a lifetime warranty. If it ever needs a repair, just send it to me and I will fix it and return it to you at no charge. You should be aware though, that opals do need to be treated more gently than other precious stones. They are about a 6 on the Moh's scale of hardness which is similar to glass. They should be removed when showering, washing dishes, gardening, etc to limit their exposure to soaps, perfumes or chemicals. Do not store your opal in direct sunlight.
