Watermelon Tourmaline and Diamond Earrings in 14k Gold and Sterling Silver
Deep pink and forest green Watermelon Tourmalines accented with 2.5mm white diamonds, all set in 14k gold on a sterling silver backplate. These vibrantly colored earrings are one of a kind and sure to become an heirloom. I've pierced out the backs to allow the light to travel through and create a "stained glass" effect. These Watermelon Tourmalines are 13mm long (or about 1/2") and 7mm (or about 1/4") wide. The 14k bezel is 3mm tall. The listing photos show a 14k gold latch back but they are also available with sterling silver latch backs.
Tourmaline is found in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Burma (Myanmar), Sri Lanka (Ceylon), and the United States (California and Maine). Several African countries have recently become big producers of gem Tourmaline, specifically Madagascar, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Malawi. Tourmaline is one of the birthstones for October. Tourmalines are a fairly hard gemstone and measure 7-7.5 on the hardness scale.
The Watermelon Tourmaline is a rare variety of tourmaline that has two full ranges of different colors in the same crystal. The colors of the Watermelon Tourmaline occur naturally under specific conditions. Watermelon tourmaline is said to attract love and balance the male and female energies. The green part feeds your life force and the pink harmonizes it.
Diamonds are the only gemstone that are 99.95% one element, which is carbon. They are the hardest natural gem, rating a 10 on the scale of hardness. Diamonds are the birthstone for April.
