Australian Opal and Apatite Ring, Multi Blue Gemstone Ring, Boho Style Aqua Ring

Regular price $295

One of a kind, triple stone ring featuring a faceted Apatite with two Australian Opals, all set in sterling silver with 14k gold accent balls. The center of this statement ring is a natural apatite that measures 7mm by 5mm. The triangular opal is 7mm high by 5mm at the base and the bottom opal is 10mm by 5mm. The 14k balls are 2mm in diameter. The band is a split shank and is made from sterling silver.

Apatite is a naturally occurring gemstone that is somewhat unfamiliar to the general public. Most come from Brazil and Mexico although recently some has been mined in Africa too. Apatite is actually the name for a mineral group but there is a sub group of gem quality. Its beautiful colors can occur because of trace amounts of rare earth minerals or natural irradiation. Apatite is about 5 on the scale of hardness but by surrounding it with a thick sterling border and capping the design with two other settings, it is well protected.

Opals begin as a mixture of silicon dioxide and water. When fresh water (from rain or streams) runs down over sandstone, it picks up traces of silica from the sandstone. This silica and water solution finds its way into cracks and crevices in trees or boulders. When the water evaporates, the silica is left (with minute amounts of water trapped in the molecules), and an opal is created! The process, although seemingly simple, takes millions of years. Opals are all one of a kind and each captures its own unique beauty. Opals are about 5-6 on the Moh's scale of hardness which is about the same hardness as glass. Some care should be taken so they are not scratched. To protect their beauty, they should not be stored in direct sunlight. They deserve to be treated gently so I also recommend removing them when playing sports or doing any strenuous activities. They should also be removed when showering because they can be affected by perfumes, cleansers or other chemicals. With a little TLC, they will become a family heirloom.

This ring will arrive in a beautiful gift box with a free polishing cloth. Like all my jewelry, it comes with a lifetime warranty. If it ever needs a repair, just send it to me and I will fix it and return it to you at no charge.
